clickitty doesn't eat & just reads the newspaper. a lot of mornings he doesn't even talk because he's so sleepy. but today he said did you know a yam is actually a tuber grown in the caribbean, latin america & even africa?

polly said don't say tuber, it sounds funny.

daljit

polly's best friend at school is daljit & she's indian but she was born in manchester, england. (clickitty says new order is from manchester! polly says not now click i wanna talk about daljit).

daljit & polly have a lot in common:

they both have black hair (though daljit likes to brush her hair more than polly does).
they both love the spice girls (though daljit loves destiny's child more).
they are both vegetarians (though daljit eats dairy).
& they both practice yoga (though daljit likes it way more than polly).

polly thinks daljt sounds like a princess when she talks.

daljit calls her mama "mum" & she throws stuff away in the "bin" & watches the "telly" & says her & polly aren't friends, they're "mates" & spells favorite "favourite". she also says sod isn't grass it's a rude word.

papa gave polly a new dvd, to kill a mockingbird.

polly loves scout & now she wants to read the book. but there was a lot in the movie that polly didn't understand, like why the man got in trouble & why jem & scout's papa couldn't help him. papa said in the olden days white people were mean to the blacks, especially in the south. polly asked were they mean to grandma when she was little? papa said a maybe a little, but by then they had laws telling the white people to knock it off. polly started to cry but then papa picked her up & said don't you worry it was a long time ago & your grandma has a big loving heart, nobody ever hurt her hurt her not one bit, not ever.

yankee ghosts

polly was happy to get back to the city because that's where all her stuff is!

there are plenty of trees at grandma's house that would make a great treehouse but polly would be afraid of all the ghosts of confederate & union soldiers that grandma said are in the back yard. mama says never you mind, grandma's only being funny but polly isn't so sure about that...

grandma says you only have to be afraid of the yankee ghosts.

pumpkin pie & flowers

polly was sad to leave grandma & cried. she thanked her for all her cooking especially the vertater. grandma just smiled & kissed her & said of course honeychile. then she said be good & mind your mama & your grandma loves you & come visit us again real soon.

grandma had a big surprise for polly this thanksgiving.

when she brought out the turducken she also brought out a special dish she made just for polly. it was a baked potato stuffed with green beans & spinach & chives!!! grandma said it was a vegan turducken just for her. polly said wanted to call it the vertater. that made everybody laugh & grandma said that she was going to call it that at the restaurant.

polly's grandma always has ginormous huge mondo thanksgivings where she invites all of polly's aunties & uncles & cousins, some friends from her church & the people who work for her at the restaurant. grandma has a big old house that she says is haunted, but polly isn't scared to stay there. mama said polly could bring a friend, maybe daljit from school, but polly just wanted to bring clickitty. this year polly & mama & papa brought auntie serena & her friend marie claire.

grandma always makes alot of food but the strangest thing she makes is a turducken, which is a chicken stuffed into a duck stuffed into a turkey. then everybody eats it. polly usually gets upset when she thinks about people eating animals & sometimes even cries but a turducken is just plain crazy. why not stuff an ostrich in an alligator in a walrus & eat that? what's the difference? where does it end?

tofurkey day

the best thing about thanksgiving for polly is they visit her grandma & grandma learned how to make vegan pralines & vegan pumpkin pie for her which is polly's favorite! polly also likes salad, mashed potatoes made with soy milk & olive oil & fried sweet potatoes.

polly doesn't like tofurkey but thinks it's a funny word. it makes her laugh.

click says benjamin franklin liked turkeys so much he wanted to make them our national bird. polly doesn't know who ben franklin is. click says maybe she'd like to pay more attention in school.

here's polly dressed up as robin hood for all you saggitarians. polly likes robin hood because he lived in the forest, probably in a treehouse, & didn't have to go to school.

click sez antonio doesn't like people to notice it's his birthday but polly sez big deal it's 'tonio's birfday!

hh dalai lama

one time mama & papa took polly to hear the dalai lama speak. polly thought he was gonna talk about dolls. there were alot of people there. everybody sat on the floor. she didn't understand what he was talking about but he had a gentle smile & a warm laugh that made polly happy. everybody was nice to her there & smiled alot & polly liked that too.

auntie serena

polly's godmother is her auntie serena who isn't her real auntie just mama's best friend. auntie serena has a girlfriend named marie claire just like willow & tara from buffy the vampire slayer. but they're not witches. auntie serena is a yoga instructor & marie claire works at the coffee house.

mama doesn't know polly's watching buffy the vampire slayer. the reruns are on after school & mama's still at the ashram. it's a little bit scary but she still likes it better than sesame street.

right here, right now

polly likes to listen to right here right now by fat boy slim because the lady that's singing sounds just like mama when she's mad & polly thinks that's funny. click says the lady is a sample of angela basset from the movie strange days.

saturdays

saturdays are polly's favourite day because mama teaches sunrise yoga & papa's still asleep & lets polly watch all the cartoons she wants. teen titans, yugio & batman. then she watches a dvd (she usually picks the wizard of oz, chitty chitty bang bang or whale rider). then papa finally wakes up & takes her & clickitty to the coffee house where he reads the newspaper & works on his laptop while polly watches the people & drinks a soy hot chocolate. click likes to read the alternative weeklys.
later they take the subway to the ashram & pick up mama!

polly thinks the crows talk to her but they only tell her stuff she already knows. stuff like:

caw! caw! caw! (you’re late for school!)
caw! caw! caw! (you’re a vegetarian!)
caw! caw! caw! (it’s a sunny day!)
caw! caw! caw! (you know how to jump rope! that's what you're doing right now!)

polly likes to think about candy when she meditates

polly's mama teaches yoga at the ashram. polly doesn't like yoga. it's too quiet. she'd much rather jump rope or learn to ride a bike. but she does it because it makes her mama happy & she has friends there & sometimes it's kinda fun.

most of the time it's dumb, though...

hermione granger & the goblet of fire

polly likes the harry potter books ok, but not so much as other kids. she loves hermione though. polly would be happy if the books were all about her. sometimes she skips over the harry parts & just reads about what's happening to hermione. polly thinks hermione & her could be friends even though polly doesn't like to study as much as she does.

treehaus rulz

polly wants a treehouse more than anything. only she lives downtown on the 9th floor nowhere near any trees so she hasn't figured out how she's gonna get one yet. when she can't sleep she thinks about her treehouse & how many levels it will have & all the ladders & rope swings & trapdoors & flags. polly & clickitty stay up late discussing all the rules for the tree house too.

1. no shouting
2. no frenemies! a frenemy is somebody who says they're your friend but really isn't. that means you dakota! you too rosario! friends aren't mean to you. friends are nice. there's a difference.
3. no eating meat! (this is an important rule)
4. no quitting.
5. no swearing (polly doesn't like to swear. click really makes an effort to not swear around her).

there are more rules but polly usually falls asleep before she can think of them.

mama says that it might be time to leave click at home & maybe polly's getting too big to have an imaginary friend. polly says don't say "imaginary" in front of click. just because he doesn't breathe air doesn't mean he's not real. how would mama like it if clickitty said SHE was imaginary? probably she wouldn't like it at all! one time polly took clickitty cat to show & tell & all the kids laughed at her. that made polly sad. now she mostly keeps him in her backpack. click doesn't like it in there. it's too dark.
